About Sam Ol KONG
Asst.Prof. Sam Ol KONG has been working as a Deputy Head of Department of Science and a Lecturer in Faculty of Science Education at Phnom Penh Teacher Education College since 2018 and Environmental Specialist. He works in the Department of Science and is responsible for a variety of tasks in science curriculum, syllabus, textbook, teaching materials, STEM education, action research and MoEYS technical supports.
He has graduated with a Master of Science in Earth System Science in Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Phuket, Thailand in 2017. (2006) He holds methodology degree from National Education Institute in Phnom Penh. (2005) He holds Bachelor of Arts in Geography from Royal University of Phnom Penh. He also achieved a Master of Education from Cambodian University of Specialties, Phnom Penh, Cambodia (2011).
He has experiences working as a Teacher Educator, a National Master Trainer, a Trainer and has been teaching Environmental, Earth Science and English subjects in high school since 2006. Moreover, he was also a core English Language Teacher in English Access Micro Scholarship Program, supported by the U.S Embassy in Phnom Penh. He has been in many national and international conferences and workshops related to professional development. He has attended in the 6-week SUSI Program (FY-2021) for Secondary School for Educators (Teachers) at the Institute for Training and Development (ITD) in Amherst, MA in the United State of America. In 2019, he was attending in the 4-week Lower Mekong Initiative (LMI) Young Scientist Program funded by the U.S. State Department in Lao PDR.
His area of professional interest is the impact of climate change on water levels and ecosystems in the Tonle Sap Lake and Mekong River. He is also interested in research related to Environment, Earth science, Science teaching and STEM Education. His current project and research paper involve the changes in temperature and water level in Tonle Sap Lake and its impacts to the ecosystem. Others current projects (GDN, CLIMATED and Promoting Green Cooperation of Climate Change STEAM Education for Engaging Adaptation and Resilience of Next Generation in Cambodia China, Lao PDR, Thailand and Vietnam) and research papers involve teaching methodology in science and STEM in PTEC. He has a strong passion for youths and women development. He has been taking part in some youths and women programs in the community by taking the role as an English Language teacher, a mentor, as well as youths’ leader.
