Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my strong interest in pursuing a postdoctoral research position in Mathematics, particularly in the areas of Partial Differential Equations, Functional Analysis, Distribution Theory, and Mathematical Modeling.
My academic journey began in 2001 when I received a scholarship to study Mathematics at the Royal University of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. After completing my Bachelor's degree in 2005, I was awarded a scholarship to continue my studies in the Russian Federation. I earned a Master's degree in Mathematics and subsequently pursued a Ph.D. in Mathematics at Voronezh State University, completing my doctoral studies in 2014.
Currently, I serve as a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics at Phnom Penh Teacher Education College, Cambodia. While my primary responsibilities focus on teaching, I remain committed to conducting research despite the limited research infrastructure and opportunities available in Cambodia. I strongly believe that research plays a crucial role in the advancement of higher education and scientific development in my country. Therefore, I continuously seek opportunities to expand my knowledge and contribute to mathematical research.
My doctoral research focused on the development of qualitative and approximate analytical methods for studying mathematical models describing small oscillations of strings and rod systems with singularities and non-smooth coefficients. The research investigated boundary value problems involving Radon–Nikodym derivatives and generalized differential operators. Particular attention was devoted to the correctness, uniqueness, and approximation of solutions to these mathematical models.
The principal contributions of my doctoral research include:
- Investigation of mathematical models describing small oscillations of rod and string systems with internal singularities and discontinuities.
- Proofs of existence, uniqueness, and correctness of the proposed mathematical models.
- Development of finite element-type numerical methods for second- and fourth-order boundary value problems with non-smooth coefficients.
- Derivation of error estimates for approximate solutions and analysis of convergence properties.
- Development of efficient computational algorithms and software packages for numerical experiments involving singular boundary value problems.
In addition to my doctoral studies, I have actively participated in numerous international research schools and conferences, including CIMPA and SEAMS programs in Mongolia, Laos, and South Korea. These experiences exposed me to modern developments in Functional Analysis, Partial Differential Equations, Dynamical Systems, and Mathematical Physics.
Through these activities, I became particularly interested in the theory of distributions and its applications to Partial Differential Equations. I am fascinated by the role of distributional solutions in mathematical models arising from physics and engineering. For example, certain heat equations with Neumann boundary conditions naturally lead to weak or distributional solutions. This realization motivated me to deepen my understanding of distribution theory and explore its applications to complex PDEs involving singularities and irregular data.
My future research aims to investigate analytical and numerical methods for PDEs with distributional coefficients and singular sources. I am especially interested in identifying mathematical models from physics and engineering that can be formulated and analyzed using generalized functions and distribution theory. I believe that such research has significant theoretical importance and practical applications.
A postdoctoral position would provide me with an excellent opportunity to collaborate with leading researchers, strengthen my research skills, and contribute to ongoing projects in this field. Working in a stimulating research environment would significantly enhance my academic development and enable me to establish international research collaborations. Upon returning to Cambodia, I intend to apply the knowledge and experience gained to support the development of mathematical research and graduate education in my country.
Thank you for considering my application. I would be honored to contribute to your research community and look forward to the opportunity to discuss my qualifications further.
Yours sincerely,
Dr. Mon Meach
