About Mom Sopheap
Mom Sopheap has been working in the Science Department in the Faculty of Science Education at Phnom Penh Teacher Education College since 2017 and is a Chemistry Specialist. She works in the Science Department and is responsible for a variety of tasks in the science curriculum, Syllabus, textbooks, teaching materials, STEM education, action research, and technical support of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. Mom Sopheap graduated with a Master’s degree in Chemistry from Khemarak University, Phnom Penh in 2017. (2005) She received a Diploma in Methods in Teacher Training in Chemistry-Biology from the National Institute of Education in Phnom Penh. (2004) She received a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the Royal University of Phnom Penh.
She has experience as a teacher educator, national teacher, a Trainer and has taught chemistry and primary science at high schools, Phnom Penh Region Teacher training Centre and Phnom Penh Teacher Education College since 2005. She participated in the Strengthening Teacher Education Colleges for Basic Education Quality (STEC) program for 3 weeks (FY-2025) for Mathematics and Science in primary and secondary schools through JICA in Japan. She participated in the Young Leaders Program for 2 weeks (FY- 2014) for Secondary and primary schools for educators (teachers) through JICA in Japan. In 2012, she participated in the VVOB education for development for 1 year and participated in STEPSAM2 and 3 Inquiry based learning and Lesson study. Her professional and research interests focus on modernizing the classroom in Cambodia. Researching how teachers can use real-time reflection to improve students’ understanding. Promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics through events such as the PTEC STEM Fair. The shift from traditional memorization to active and deep-thinking skills. And exploring the impact of collaborative teaching and modern pedagogical tools on student performance.
She is currently active in several impactful projects in the Department of Science, Faculty of Education, Phnom Penh Teacher Education College. She has participated in research publications and co-authored research papers such as "Collaborative Teaching Practices and Teachers' Perceptions" and the study on "Teachers' and Students' Perceptions of Formative Assessment Practices" (2024-2025). And has contributed to PTEC's mission to become a leading teacher training institution of the 21st century in Cambodia.
