About CHHEANG Sophea

 

Mr. Chheang Sophea is a Chemistry Lecturer, Deputy Head of the Department of Science, and STEM Center Leader at Phnom Penh Teacher Education College (PTEC). He plays a key role in advancing science and STEM education through teaching, academic leadership, and curriculum development.

His work focuses on chemistry education, with particular expertise in designing instructional materials and implementing learner-centered pedagogies such as inquiry-based learning and problem-based learning. As STEM Center Leader, he promotes interdisciplinary learning, innovation, and the integration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in teacher education. He is especially interested in assessment and evaluation, including the development of tools that promote higher-order thinking skills aligned with Bloom’s Taxonomy and international frameworks such as PISA.

At PTEC, he teaches and supervises student teachers, while also contributing to departmental planning and professional development initiatives. His research interests include improving student motivation, enhancing conceptual understanding, and fostering self-directed learning. He has also worked on integrating the Claim–Evidence–Reasoning (CER) framework and alternative assessment strategies into chemistry teaching.

Mr. Sophea is committed to strengthening the connection between theory and practice in teacher education and to preparing future educators with the competencies required for effective and innovative classroom practice. His work contributes to the continuous improvement of STEM education quality in Cambodia.
