About Veasna CHUM
Mr. Chum Veasna is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Phnom Penh Teacher Education College (PTEC), under the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS), Cambodia.
He holds two master’s degrees in mathematics: one from the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP), Cambodia, and another from the Center for Research in Mathematics (CIMAT), Mexico. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from RUPP and subsequently completed a one-year Bachelor Plus Program in Mathematics Teacher Education at the National Institute of Education (NIE).
Before joining PTEC in 2018, Mr. Veasna taught mathematics at Chrey Thom High School in Svay Rieng Province for nearly nine years. During his studies at CIMAT, he also participated in a six-month International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) training program, where he studied advanced mathematics education and observed instructional approaches for high-achieving secondary school students.
At PTEC, he teaches mathematics courses for student teachers, supervises undergraduate research projects, and mentors student teachers during their teaching practicum. He is an member of the STEM Education Team and the Mathematics Research Team, and he serves as a lesson study mentor for lower secondary schools.
His research interests include pure and applied mathematics, mathematics education, STEM education, and the integration of digital technologies in mathematics teaching and learning. He has authored research papers and several mathematics textbooks and teaching resources for teacher education in Cambodia.
